Donald J. Hanrahan was born and raised in central Illinois. He attended Springfield College in Illinois (now Benedictine University), graduating with an associate’s degree in the top ten of his class. He then earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law. Having worked as a volunteer and also intern for legal aid during his law school days, he began his legal career as a staff attorney, then managing attorney, for the Land of Lincoln Legal Aid in its Springfield Office. In 1994, he opened his law firm, and in 1998, he joined Greg Sgro in his practice first established in 1987.
He is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, an achievement ranking him at the highest level of level of professional and ethical excellence, and has also been recognized as a Leading Lawyer. He is a sustaining member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives, a member and past director of the Sangamon County Bar Association, and a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
After more than 40 years of practicing law, Don entered semi-retirement as of the end of May 2023. He concentrated his practice in the area of Social Security disability claims and appeals but is no longer accepting new clients. He remains of counsel to the firm.
